Dead Giveaway is a game played in person, with a phone as the referee. It is run by Impossible Works. This page says what the game collects, why, who else handles it, and when it is deleted.
What we collect
- Your name in the game. Whatever you type when you join. Everyone in the game sees it.
- Your WhatsApp number. We get it when you send the join message to the game’s WhatsApp number. We never ask you to type it.
- Messages you send to the game’s WhatsApp number, such as the join message or STOP. We read them to connect you to your game, and keep only the fact that they arrived, not what they said.
- What you do in the game: your role, votes and moves, so the game can be played and its results shown.
- Hosts only: the host’s email address, to send sign-in links.
What we don’t collect
- No analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind, and no third-party scripts.
- No location, contacts or photos.
- Hunches (your private Trust, Unsure and Suspect marks) stay on your phone and are never sent to us.
How we use it
Only to run your game: to deal roles, keep the clocks, count votes, and send you a WhatsApp alert when a meeting opens. We never use your number for anything else, never send marketing, and never sell or share your information.
How long we keep it
- Your WhatsApp number is stored encrypted, and deleted when your game ends. Whatever happens to the game, it is deleted within two days.
- Everything else about a game (names, roles, votes, moves) is deleted 30 days after the game was created.
- Your WhatsApp chat with the game stays in your WhatsApp, like any other chat. It is yours to keep or delete.
Who else handles it
The game runs on services that process this information for us, in the United States:
- Meta (WhatsApp) carries the messages between you and the game. Its own privacy policy applies to WhatsApp.
- Vercel hosts the game and keeps short-lived request logs.
- Supabase hosts the game’s database and sends hosts’ sign-in emails.
Cookies
Two cookies, both needed for the game to work: one remembers which player you are (it expires after a day), and one keeps a host signed in (12 hours). Neither tracks you anywhere else.
Your choices, and deleting your data
- Stop alerts: send STOP to the game’s WhatsApp number. You’ll get no more alerts for that game.
- Delete your data: it is deleted automatically, as above. To have it deleted sooner, email support@impossibleworks.com with your name in the game and the game’s code if you have it. We’ll delete it within 7 days and confirm by reply.
- Questions: the same address.
Who can play
You need to be old enough to use WhatsApp where you live. The game isn’t meant for children.
